You were given the task of writing about and comparing how the story of the royal engagement is presented on two different news broadcasts. Below is the essay structure you need to follow.

•Briefly introduce what representation is and how TV news constructs those representations
• identify the type of story that contains the representation- hard or soft news?
•Explain how TV news programmes select these stories and why representation is important (link to audience perception of the world)
Paragraphs one and two
•What type of news programme is clip 1?
•Does this affect the way the Royal engagement is represented?
•What is the dominant representation in the clip?
•Gender
•Celebrity
•An event? Or all 3?
You then do the same but for clip two!
Paragraphs three and four
•How is the representation constructed in clip 1?
•Language codes
•Gesture codes
•Camerawork
•News conventions- on screen graphics/vox pops etc..
•Stereotypes?
You then do the same for clip two!
Paragraph five
•Compare how the event is represented differently in each clip
•Which one is more positive and why?
•Which one is more negative and why?
